Using Google Earth Pro to Find Locations of Historic Images

The convergence of a photo and and two etchings inspired this how-to.

How to use Google Earth Pro to match a photo.

On Google Earth Pro, select Terrain on the Layers, so you get the contours of the hills.
Start somewhere likely and then move around until the hills match up.
Just by moving a couple of feet, the hills change quite a bit. Far hills are often the most helpful.

This photo has long perplexed us, as to its location.

The Thompson & West etching below has a slightly different angle (looking up canyon), but familiar landmarks: the building, the creek, the little willow island, and the hills. We are very likely looking at the same location from a slightly different angle.

Alameda Creek has had its course changed over the years. There was once a braided stream and it is now a single stream in this location.
